Bonus Bucks can be used at all Farm Fresh RI locations, including the AS220 Winter Market in Providence and the Pawtucket/Wintertime Farmers Markets. For more information visit www.farmfresh.org.
The Citizens Bank Foundation recently supported Farm Fresh Rhode Island with an $8,000 grant in support of their Bonus Bucks campaign. The campaign gives low-income shoppers an extra $5 each time they use their federal nutrition benefits at Farm Fresh farmers markets. It helps SNAP and WIC clients stretch their tight food budgets and promotes the purchase of healthy, natural foods. By providing an incentive for purchasing fruits and vegetables at farmers markets, Farm Fresh Rhode Island is helping to fight hunger and poor nutrition related diseases such as obesity in low-income communities. The Bonus Bucks campaign led to a seven hundred percent increase in sales to federal nutrition program beneficiaries in the first year of its implementation.
