More Anniversary Celebrations In The Blackstone Valley

“The House that Love Built” celebrates 200th anniversary in 2010. Considered to be one of the finest examples of early nineteenth century Federal-style house in Rhode Island, Hearthside first received attention and recognition as a historic property when it was chosen as the inspiration for the Rhode Island State Pavilion at the 1904. Construction of Hearthside began in 1810, conceived by Stephen Hopkins Smith to win his lady love. Click here to read more about the house’s lore and learn about anniversary events planned in 2010.
Other milestone anniversaries
Gamm Theatre continues its Silver Anniversay season and the Gamm Theatre Board of Directors along with Honorary Chairs U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Dr. Sandra Whitehouse invite arts supporters to join them on Saturday, April 10 for their 8th annual fundraiser, Gamm 25: A Silver Celebration, an evening of reminiscences and rollicking fun! - The Wilkinson Mill at Slater Mill celebrates its 200th Anniversary. Speaking of Slater Mill, there Susan Whitney is new Executive Director, and the Waterway Restoration Project and two Federal awards: $300,000 Save America’s Treasures grant supported by Senator Jack Reed and $194,000 appropriation sponsored by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. The funding is part of a $1 million dollar initiative to restore and improve the Slater Mill building, rebuild its Waterway and educate the public about the past and future of green energy.
