To better serve the educational needs of its students, Dayspring Christian Academy of Attleboro recently initiated a major project to renovate its library and research facilities.
According to Librarian Kimberly Theroux, DCA recently installed new carpeting on the floor of its 1,000-square foot school library, updated its printed circulation materials and enhanced its electronic capabilities. The end result, according to Mrs. Theroux, is a vastly improved educational setting for school students in Kindergarten through Grade 8.
“The library now gives our students a better quality of selection,” Mrs. Theroux said. “We want our students to have positive experiences when they are here so that they maintain their love of books and reading.”
According to Mrs. Theroux, the parent of a DCA student graciously offered to donate carpet squares in the library and a group of parent volunteers laid the carpeting during the school’s December recess. Since then, Mrs. Theroux has diligently modernized the library’s books and circulation materials.
“We purged many old and outdated books on our shelves and started replacing them with new volumes,” she said. “When we’re finished, we will have approximately 9,000 volumes in here.”
DCA’s library also features a computer terminal, through which students can access online databases. Internet access is available for database searching, Mrs. Theroux said.
“We have a full computer laboratory with Internet access in the school for students, so we use the library computer only for searching databases,” she said.
Now in her eighth year as DCA’s librarian, Mrs. Theroux said library renovations will pique students’ interests in a variety of subjects and topics.
“If we instill a love for books in students when they are young, it will remain with them throughout their educational careers,” she said.
Dayspring Christian Academy is an interdenominational and coeducational school which teaches students in pre-kindergarten 3 through Grade 8 from a distinctively Christian world and life view, and is a ministry of the South Attleboro Assembly of God.
