Pawtucket Public Library Featured in National Journal

March 27th, 2009 · No Comments

The Jan/Feb issue of the American Library Association’s Public Libraries journal includes an article published by Pawtucket Public Library’s Community Resources Librarian Eugene Jeffers. Located in the Extraordinary Outreach section of the journal, the article is titled “Electronic Outreach and Our Patrons” and details Pawtucket’s success with their Live Homework Help internet tutoring service. This service connects local students and adult learners with professional tutors through the library’s web site www.pawtucketlibrary.org.  Jeffers created (and maintains) the Pawtucket Library’s MySpace profile www.myspace.com/pawtucketlibrary to increase the community’s awareness of the library’s online resources including Live Homework Help. The result was a sizable increase of library users using library resources from their home computers.

Jeffers graduated from URI with a Master of Library and Information Studies in 2005. He received the Coalition of Library Advocates’ William Bergeron Public Library Scholarship for his graduate work and was nominated into the Beta Phi Mu Library Science Honor Society. In January of 2007 Jeffers received Tutor.com’s Innovator of the Month Award. He has also presented at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School for Library and Information Studies. His topics have included Strategic Planning for Multi-Cultural Populations, Implementing Web 2.0 In Public Libraries, and Intellectual Access: Collections and Connectivity.
