Make Reservations Now
Blackstone Valley Tourism Council is now taking Reservations for Fall School programs aboard the Blackstone Valley Explorer through October 10, 2010.
Once Again the City of Pawtucket has awarded the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council a Community Development Block Grant that will allow schools from Pawtucket to participate in these river education programs.
Patricia McAlpine, Blackstone River Education Coordinator for the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council says, “This is one of the most rewarding parts of my position with the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council – educating and sharing the historic and environmental aspects of the Blackstone River with students of all ages. I get a thrill every time a child sees a Great Blue Heron for the first time and realizes that this cultural and natural resource is in their backyard.” She further states that grant funding is key in ensuring students are given this opportunity to learn about their local communities. As part of their mission, the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council has offered RiverClassroom Programs since 1993 with over 30,000 students participating in these programs. Without grant funding, the RiverClassroom programs could not exist.
Businesses and/or organizations, which wish to contribute to the RiverClassroom Scholarship Fund for the 2010/2011 school year, can contact the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council at 401-724-2200.
River programs aboard the Explorer will operate (weather permitting) through Columbus Day Weekend and will resume again in Spring 2011.
