Local Girl Scout Troops from Pawtucket came together for their Annual Quilting Night held at St. Teresa Church Hall in Pawtucket. Each troop is asked to bring 1 yard of fabric & bunting per girl to this quilting project. The girls sit and pin & tie their fabrics together and the leaders finish off the edges on the sewing machines. This 2009 event was held in memory of Mrs. Nancy Brown, who was a coordinator at Tolman High School’s Daycare and a member of Pawtucket Girl Scouts. Nancy was a wonderful person who gave so much to anything she was involved with especially scouting even to the end of her long illness. Each year the quilts are sewn and tagged by each scout and delivered to the Memorial Hospitals Pediatrics ward and to Tolman High School. This year approximately 40 quilts will be delivered. This project started as a Gold Award Project and has continued each year as a Community Project for Pawtucket Girl Scouts. Girls as young as 5 years old have continued to enjoy this rewarding project as a way of learning a new skill and giving back to the community.
