Just in time for Super Bowl weekend (Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1), the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has partnered with Sports Radio 103.7 WEEI-FM and several area bars and restaurants throughout the State to tackle drunk driving.
The group has distributed more than 50,000 drink coasters with the safety message, “Designate a Sober Driver BEFORE You Go Out! You Drink & Drive You Lose!” A press conference to officially launch this campaign will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 4 p.m. at McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon, 52 Pine Street, Providence.
Speakers for the press event include: Michael P. Lewis, Director, RIDOT; Police Chief George Kelley, City of Pawtucket, and President, Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association; and Joe Harrington, Vice President/General Manager, Sports Radio 103.7 WEEI-FM.
This effort supports the monthly sustained enforcement patrols targeting drunk drivers. State and local police will be out in full force for a three day increased enforcement period Super Bowl weekend aimed at apprehending drunk drivers, the leading cause of fatal crashes in Rhode Island.
