PAWTUCKET WINTER WONDERLAND
IN SLATER PARK THIS WEEKEND !

Pawtucket:  Winter Wonderland in Slater Park, Pawtucket, RI kicks off this weekend, Saturday/Sunday, December 5 & 6 and concludes Saturday/Sunday December 12 & 13 from 4-8pm.  Winter Wonderland is Pawtucket’s own “festival of lights” and is a much anticipated annual event that grows each year. A variety of  family activities will be available for the public to enjoy  including: miniature train rides, an old-fashioned hay ride, face painting, hot chocolate and other activities. Attendees may stroll along the park and enjoy the spectacular view of the hundreds of lit Christmas trees individually decorated and personalized that surround the Slater Park pond and travel up through Daggett Farm. In addition, visitors may take a ride on the historic Looff carousel, the oldest stationary carousel in the world for only 25 cents per ride.

One returning popular event this year includes  “Photos with Santa” in the Boathouse, which includes a personalized holiday folder and photo for only $5.00 sponsored by The Camera Werks of Providence. This “photo session” with Santa has become popular over the years for children and patrons having their pictures taken with family pets, friends, adults and families. This is a wonderful way to create a fun memory, while at the same time helping to support Winter Wonderland. A portion of the proceeds helps support Winter Wonderland.  As always, visits with Santa are welcome, at no charge. Photos will be available from 4-8pm both Saturday and Sunday.   A heated food court offers hamburgers, hot dogs, hot chocolate – all at modest prices.  Winter Wonderland is a fun evening for all.  While you are strolling the grounds of Slater Park – say ‘hello’ to Paws and Mrs. Sox as they welcome visitors to the park grounds.

Founded in 1999 by lifelong Pawtucket residents, Janice McHale and Jean Stipeck, their desire was to create a Christmas event in Slater Memorial Park, Pawtucket, where children and families could enjoy various holiday related activities at affordable prices, and decorated Christmas trees could fill the park and create a spectacular  “festival of lights”.   With the support of Mayor James Doyle, a volunteer group was recruited and Pawtucket’s Winter Wonderland was formed as an organization in conjunction with the City of Pawtucket. This event is held on the weekends that precede Christmas each year.  Winter Wonderland has it has become an annual attraction in the City of Pawtucket and continues to grow each year.
