“Watercolors” New Art Exhibit at Tiverton Town Hall

December 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

The Tiverton Arts Council is pleased to present “Watercolors,” an exhibition of watercolor paintings by Tiverton artist, Helen Sturges Nadler.

The exhibition at the Tiverton Town Hall will run from January 13 to March 10, 2009. An opening reception will be held on Friday, January 16 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the hall located at 343 Highland Road in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Tiverton Town Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Helen Nadler was raised in New England and graduated from Mount Holyoke College. She received an MAT from Wesleyan University and an MA in art therapy from University of New Mexico. She has taught the medium of watercolor at UNM and at RISD Continuing Education Program as well as local art groups, and currently holds a critique class at her home in Tiverton.

“This is what I do,” said Ms. Nadler, “Every morning, I go down to the sea to have its image hold me. Sometimes, this obsession demands a painting. I make the painting with watercolor pigments that create light and translucency, with paper that is the ground of that light. When I am in a desert or mountain landscape, the experience is the same. The cloud shadows scud across the land, across the vast horizontal space, creating that same light of color and translucency.”

Ms. Nadler is a member of the Providence Art Club and The Art League of RI. Her paintings have been exhibited in New Mexico and throughout New England and are in the permanent collections of the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, the University of New Mexico Art Museum and private collections across the US and Canada. Her most recent exhibition was earlier this year at Gallery 4 in Tiverton.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Tiverton Arts Council. This is a town created committee charged with enhancing and promoting the arts in Tiverton and educating the public as to the value of the arts in building a community.
