Sen. Tassoni co-sponsors low-cost spay/neuter clinic

October 9th, 2008 · No Comments

A low-cost spay/neuter clinic for cats will be held beginning at 8:15 a.m. Monday, October 27, at the SNYPP Clinic, 9 Church Street, Pascoag.

The clinic is being co-sponsored by Sen. John J. Tassoni Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, North Smithfield), the Humane Association of Northwestern Rhode Island and Defenders of Animals Inc. Also participating in the clinic is Dr. Debra Campbell, who worked with the Veterinary Medical Assistant Teams (VMAT), a group under the Department of Homeland Security that offers veterinary aid in disasters, and who has participated in a number of animal rescue and medical missions, including one following Hurricane Katrina in  New Orleans.

The clinic will be providing the services on an appointment-only basis, with a charge of $65 per cat which will cover the spay/neuter procedure, distemper and rabies shots and a checkup.

Appointments can be made by contacting Defenders of Animals at 401-461-1922 or by sending an email to Smithfieldspay@defendersofanimals.org.

Senator Tassoni has been actively involved for years in issues dealing with animal control and animal cruelty and was the prime sponsor of legislation enacted two years ago that created one of the most extensive and progressive cat breeder and spay/neuter programs in the nation.
