MS 150 Starts Saturday – 150 Miles Over 2 Days
WARWICK, R.I., June 25, 2009 - Tomorrow cyclist Eric McDermott is scheduled to complete his cross-country bike ride to raise money and awareness about multiple sclerosis when he arrives in Maine. Then he will return to Rhode Island so he can join nearly 1,000 dedicated cyclists as part of MS 150, which kicks off from Narragansett Pier School with a high energy, mass start at 8 a.m.
A month ago, McDermott set out from Lincoln City, Oregon, to ride his bike across the country and raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of his two aunts who have the disease. A recent graduate of Humboldt State University in California, McDermott has no corporate sponsors, his parents are his support and gear vehicle, and none of the money raised – so far nearly $7,000 – goes to pay for the ride.
For Fidelity Investments MS 150, cyclists will bike 150 miles over 2 days from Narragansett, R.I., to New London, Conn., and back to raise money for the R.I. Chapter of the National MS Society.
Also participating in MS 150 on the Teva Team is Wendy Booker, who has MS and recently scaled Mount Everest. Booker plans to climb the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on seven continents. For information on MS 150, visit www.MS150ri.com.
