The Community Players present Moonlight and Magnolias

The Community Players, Rhode Island’s longest-running community theatre, rounds out its 88th season with Ron Hutchinson’s side-splitting comedy, Moonlight and Magnolias. Set in 1939 Hollywood, legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic Gone With The Wind because the screenplay just isn’t working. He sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht (who hasn’t read the book) and pulls Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz, locks them in his office for five days with nothing to eat but peanuts and bananas, and together they hilariously act out each scene, laboring to create the screenplay for what is to become one of the most successful films of all time.
The production is directed by Sandy Cerel, and features Neil G. Santoro as David O. Selznick, Sandy Remington as Victor Fleming, Brian Mulvey as Ben Hecht and Roz Remington as Miss Poppenghul, Selznick’s long-suffering secretary.
Moonlight and Magnolias will be performed June 12-14 and June 19-21 at Jenks Auditorium, Division Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island (across from McCoy Stadium). Curtain is at 8 pm Fridays and Saturdays, with 2 pm matinees on Sundays. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students (through high school). On Friday, June 12th the company hosts a special opening night party after the performance featuring a chance to meet the cast, tour the backstage and sample complimentary refreshments.
