LOCAL HISTORY, MUSIC AND RACING FOR A CAUSE

Rhode Island’s Blackstone River Valley is the ideal Southern New England destination for travelers to experience a diversity of fun activities during the June 6-7 weekend.

Explore local community heritage, experience great music through seasonal concerts and performances and cheer on area residents running to support area charities.

Celebrating a milestone

Saturday afternoon, June 6, from 1-4 pm, a noted landmark in Cumberland, RI, the Arnold Mills Community House, celebrates its 200th anniversary.

Located as the centerpiece of Arnold Mills village, at the junction of Hillside Road & Abbott Run Valley Road, the site is noted for offering area artisans and crafters a place to sell and showcase their original works.

The center will be offering entertainment, face painting, demonstrations and refreshments. Call for more details at 401-333-6080.

In addition, the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor has a free walking tour brochure that offers self guided interpretation on the history of Arnold Mills village.

Sensational summertime music

The City of Central Falls, RI offers its annual Sunday Summer Concerts every week starting Sunday, June 7, through Sunday, August 30. Performances are held from 1-3 pm inside the historic Jenks Park, on Broad Street, next to Central Falls City Hall.

Also, the Providence Mandolin Orchestra will perform a Benefit Concert, Sunday, June 7, at 4 pm, at St. Paul’s Church Parish Hall, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket, RI.

Admission is $10/person or donation of a non-perishable good to benefit the RI Community Food Bank.
