ATTLEBORO – Dayspring Christian Academy recently hosted its annual Fine Arts and Music Night at the school located at 1052 Newport Avenue in Attleboro, proudly exhibiting its students’ artistic and musical abilities.

An art exhibition in the school’s gymnasium featured hundreds of individual student creations — ranging from directed abstractions to self-portraits – while a 90-minute music performance later in the evening at the adjacent South Attleboro Assembly of God illustrated students’ musical talents. Several hundred parents, family members and friends attended the event.

“It was truly a blessed evening,” said Robert Lavallee, DCA’s assistant principal. “All our students worked hard and long to showcase their artistic and musical gifts and we were pleased to have the opportunity to have others witness their achievements.”

Students in grades kindergarten through 8 participated in the art exhibition, with each grade level assigned specific areas of expertise. While kindergarteners focused on directed abstractions, first-graders produced glittering night animals and life-sized figures; second-graders generated Eric Carle replicas; third-graders manufactured fall landscapes, spring flowers and word balloons; fourth-graders spotlighted Zoetrope animations and colorful masks; fifth-graders created oil pastels of pets, themed abstractions and Bible posters; sixth-graders fashioned Christmas stockings, crowd drawings and personal time capsules; seventh-graders designed personal time capsules; and eighth-graders constructed clay pots as well as self-portraits.

During the music program, the DCA Worship Band, Recorder Consort and Choral Group performed pieces, while solos, duets and trios encompassed the bulk of the program. Sharon-Rose Granata, Dominique DeSimone and Bethanne Milton all completed solo singing performances; Jonathan Maaz and Josiah Boirard produced guitar solos; Michael Russell and Cherubin Manokaran concluded piano solos; singing duets of Rachel Hitchcock and Sharon Rajadurai and Ama Boaten and Jordan Scarduzio were well-received; trios of Frederica Badoe, Jordan Breen and Julia Aguiar; Nicole Sorial, Natalie Sorial and Sarah Awad; and Derek Jackson, Billy Arruda and Ian Vater sang or played instruments; while Brooke Fontaine and Gabrielle Milley performed a human video.

At the conclusion of the evening, Lavallee declared the program “a success.”

“We hold this program every year as a way to let our students express their innovation and creativity,” Lavallee said. “We’re so grateful that they are able to express their God-given abilities.”
