Spooner announces write-in bid for School Committee PAWTUCKET — Former School Committe member Raymond J. Spooner Jr. today announced his candidacy for School Committee in Tuesday’s general election. With the last-minute departure of one candidate from the race, Spooner asked that voters write his name in the blank space provided at the bottom of the column for one of the seven available School Committe seats, and connect the arrows to the right of the line to register a vote for him. “I’ve always had the kids’ best interest at heart and it would be an honor to serve again on the School Committee,” Spooner said. “These are financially trying times for the city and I feel my experience would be a major plus.” With one of the seven candidates listed on the printed ballot suddenly dropping out, Board of Canvassers Registrar Ken McGill said the write-in candidate with the most votes will be declared the winner, the Pawtucket Times reported on its Web site. Spooner, of 64 Benjamin St., is a former four-year chairman of the committee where that tenure was marked by passage of consistently balanced budgets. He ran unsuccessfully for a City Council at-large slot in the September Democratic primary. The landscape of the race for the seven-member board changed abruptly late Friday with the announced sudden withdrawal of one of the winners in the Democratic primary.
