ATTLEBORO – Brandon Clark, 13, of Attleboro, a seventh-grade student at Dayspring Christian Academy, was recently named a 2nd-Team National Pop Warner All-American Scholar by Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. of Langhorne, Penn.
Clark, the son of David and Carol of Attleboro, was a member of the Attleboro Eagles’” team last autumn and was chosen from among more than 8,000 applicants for All-American Scholar honors. Annually, just the top 1 percent of all Pop Warner participants nationally qualifies for All-American status.
“I felt pretty good when I learned I had been selected as an All-American Scholar because it’s a pretty special honor,” Clark said. “Only a few kids all over the country make it every year, so I’m very proud.”
Established in 1929, Pop Warner Little Scholars advertises itself as “the only youth football, cheerleading and dance organization that requires its participants to maintain academic standards in order to participate.” To be considered as an All-American Scholar, applicants must maintain at least an academic grade-point average of at least 96, volunteer in community activities and participate in non-sports extracurricular activities.
Clark, who has attended Dayspring Christian Academy since kindergarten, is a high-ranking student at the school, plays basketball there, and excels in the school’s interscholastic speech and mathematics programs. He also recently placed first in his grade during the school’s annual Science Fair.
“I enjoy all subjects in school,” Clark said. “I don’t really have a favorite subject.”
Clark, who plays quarterback and linebacker for the Eagles, is also an exceptional baseball player, having previously starred in the Attleboro Little League and Attleboro Badgers AAU team and currently with the Attleboro Bombers AAU team. He was also a member this past winter of an Attleboro basketball team in the Metro West Travel League.
Clark’s selection as an All-American Scholar will entitle he and his parents to attend a national banquet May 22 and 23 in Florida. A banquet honoring all New England regional selections will be held June 6 in Worcester.
