
Fatima High School held their annual National Student Leadership Week from April 20th -24th. The Leadership Week is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The 2009 theme theme was ‘STEP UP AND GO GREEN”. Schools across the United States recognized their ”GREEN” student leaders. On Monday and Tuesday Fatima’s faculty and student body nominated those students that met the following criteria: Leaders that are environmentally friendly, leaders that are resourceful in proposing and initiating ways to be “GREEN” and leaders that are involved in organizations/activities that help the environment. Specific examples were needed for each criteria when nominating a student. On Thursday, April 23rd the following students were recognized as “GREEN” leaders:

In addition to the Leadership awards — some of the juniors were recognized for their academic performance from different Universities:
Society of Women Engineers: Awarded to one female and one male demonstrating ability and interest in Math & Science: Teresa Harris and Jordan Schwartz
Saint Michael’s College Book Award – presented by Keith Maloney from St. Michael’s College: Awarded to a member of the National Honor Society and committed to community service: Jordan Schwartz
University of Rochester – Frederick Douglass/Susan B. Anthony Humanities Award: Awarded to a student with a high GPA, rigorous courses and community service; Dominic Pirri
University of Rochester – Bausch & Lomb Science Award: Awarded to a student with three years of science, academic excellence in science and high PSAT scores: Jordan Schwartz
University of Rochester – Xerox Award – Informational Technology: Awarded to a student with a strong interest in Information Technology, a high achiever and great use of technology: Alex Gorman
University of Rochester – Kodak Young Leaders Award: Awarded to a student with strong leadership skills, excellent marks in a challenging curriculum, participates in, and shows dedication to varied extensive extra-curricular activities: Jacqueline Smiley
Harvard Club of Rhode Island Award: Awarded to a student demonstrating excellence in scholarship, leadership, community service and non-academic achievements: Alexander Schwartz
